Diagnostic Exams
Muscular, joint and nerve injuries have to be properly diagnosed to be treated effectively. Rehabilitation Associates of Naples is equipped to run a range of diagnostic tests to determine the exact nature of an injury or condition, the extent of the damage, and sometimes the cause. Numbness, tingling, muscle pain, weakness and cramping are all symptoms that EMG tests are used to diagnose.
These tests can range from a physical observation of function and condition, to nerve conduction studies utilizing advanced equipment.
None of these tests are invasive or surgical in nature. The results are critical to accurate diagnosis and treatment, not only in our office, but for other physicians that provide treatment as well.
Nerve Conduction Studies
Nerve conductions studies show how well the body's electrical signals travel via a nerve. Small electrical shocks, which cause a short, mild tingle, are recorded. Multiple nerves may be tested.
Needle Electromyography (EMG)
Used to test muscles, a needle EMG uses small, thin needles (new ones for each test), in specific muscles and measures the transfers of electrical signals. There may be a small amount of pain from the needle prick.
